EXHIBITIONS
The feathers will be flying at Eptek this December. Catch the Prince County Woodcarvers Guild’s newest exhibit “Wood Comes to Life” from December 3rd to January 5th. The exhibit will showcase their intricate carvings of birds and other wildlife. Join us for the official opening on December 3rd at 2 pm. Also on display until January 5th, the exhibit "Inspired by Nightingale – Dedicated to God: The Story of Georgina Fane Pope" highlights the life and accomplishments of native Islander Georgina Fane Pope, renowned for her ground-breaking career as a nurse, was also daughter to Father of Confederation Wm. H. Pope. The Centre is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10 to 4, and 12 to 4 on Sunday. Admission is by donation. The on-site gift shop carries only Island art and craft, as well as books on local themes. Don’t miss the permanent exhibition on the history and architecture of Summerside, too. Eptek Art & Culture Centre is a site of the Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation and is located at 130 Heather Moyse Drive on the Summerside waterfront, adjacent to the Harbourfront Theatre. Take a voyage with the Friends of Eptek this December with Eptek Lunchtime Films.
The films planned for December are: Dec 7 Journey of a Lifetime: Africa and Asia (57 min.) distributed by Reader’s Digest; Dec. 14 Argentina: Land of Natural Wonder (51 min.) distributed by IVN Entertainment Inc.; Dec. 21 An Irish Christmas – Christmas from St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin (56 min.) distributed by Questar Inc. Bring your sandwich; the Friends provide tea/coffee and cookies. There is no charge for the film presentation; however, donations are accepted for the refreshments. We will be enjoying some new films, as well as some from our late Friend Blanche Hogg. BOOKS
The members of the Eptek Centre Book Club will meet Thursday, December 7th at 7 pm to discuss “Dear Life” by Alice Munro. Through this collection of short stories, Munro explores moments that changed the lives of her characters forever. The stories are told with her gift for storytelling, and this collection includes tales from the author’s own childhood, as well. New members are welcome.
