Sustainable Development Fair - St. Paul's Anglican Church in Charlottetown is committed to being mindful of important issues within our church, community, country and our world. Our church has a strong, widely-shared reputation for social-justice outreach and activism, and for commitment to stewardship of resources, both natural and human. At every baptism the congregation promises to "strive to safeguard the integrity of creation - to respect, sustain and renew the life of the earth," as well as to "strive for peace and justice, and respect the dignity of every human being." As out Outreach and Social Justice Committee's Mission Statement says, "We seek to achieve fairness for all through support, advocacy and education, with special concern for the for the disadvantaged and disenfranchised." This is the motivation for our holding a Sustainable Development Fair. We have identified the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/) set out in 2015 as an essential topic to promote awareness in our church and to the public. The objectives of the UN goals are in keeping with Christian responsibilities to love and care for all of God's creations. The key focus of the UN goals is to "end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all". In response to the UN's clearly stated Sustainable Development mission, we will host our "Sustainable Development Fair" on June 3rd from 1-5 p.m. Admission is free to all. There will be Informative displays and activities provided by multiple organizations which are devoted to sustainable development - doing things which accord with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the City of Charlottetown's Integrated Community Sustainability Plan, concerning environment, climate, poverty, education, decent work, clean energy, equality, innovative technology, healthy communities, social justice. Our aim is to provide an opportunity for ground-breakers, and grass roots innovators to educate, inspire and promote awareness to the public through their expertise in Sustainable Development. - Invitees will include a variety of people from various sources including government, organizations, companies, foundations, special interest groups, and individuals Come and enjoy this event. Besides display tables/booths, there will be: • giveaways - seed packets, tree seedlings • demonstrations of technology • theme-related children's activities (Sierra's Wildchild; Children's Library) • refreshments • short videos • a panel or workshop about businesses' social responsibility toward sustainability • hand-out pamphlets about the UN SD Goals and the ICS Plan • a pledge document by which visitors are asked to commit to action for sustainability The Fair takes place on June 3rd from 1-5pm at the Jack Blanchard Family Centre.
