KCMH Emergency Department to keep current hours until at least February

The Kings County Memorial Hospital emergency department’s hours of operation will continue be Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until at least February.  Health PEI says that’s due to an ongoing lack of staff and physicians to staff the department seven days a week.  That schedule was introduced on July 1st to ensure staff from Monday to Friday and help avoid unplanned last-minute closures.  Health PEI Chief Operating Officer Corinne Rowswell says recruitment for physicians, nurses and staff to maintain the emergency department seven-days a week has been a priority for many months, but they haven’t recruited enough staff yet to the area to return to daily service.
