The Callbeck House in Central Bedeque has been designated a Provincial Heritage Place under the PEI Heritage Places Protection Act. The designation means the property must be preserved and the building cannot be altered in a way that would detract from its historical significance. It is located on what was known as Strong’s Corner in the mid-1800s and, for well over a century, has been called Callbeck’s Corner in the community of Central Bedeque. The house has been in the family since 1872. Former Premier and Senator, Catherine Callbeck, and her brother, businessman Bill Callbeck, grew up there — just across the road from their family’s store. At one point, three generations of Callbecks lived in the house.
