Summerside Police Warn of Scammers

 Police in Summerside are warning residents about calls from scammers pretending to be banking officials. Last week, police had a call from a victim who had been contacted by someone claiming to be from the RBC fraud department. The alleged scammer advised that someone in Montreal was trying to access their bank account and that in order to protect their money they should e-transfer funds from their line of credit to their chequing account. The victim was then asked for an electronic link showing proof of the transfer, and with that the scammer was able to intercept the e-transfer. No personal information was needed and people are advised to be cautious.
