Statistics Canada says the Island economy added 400 jobs in April, while the provincial unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 percent in April from 7.5 percent in March. Meanwhile, the national economy saw employment grow by seven-thousand-400 jobs in April. However, the unemployment rate rose for the second straight month, going up two-tenths of a point to 6.9 per cent last month. Canada’s manufacturing sector shed 31-thousand jobs in April as tariffs from the United States hampered the industry. That was offset by a jump in employment connected to the federal election.
