A tender has been issued by Health PEI and the Province’s Transportation and Infrastructure Department for work addressing the presence of asbestos at the Kings County Memorial Hospital. The Hospital was built in Montague in 1971, before asbestos laws prevented its use in construction. The agency says the work is part of a broader plan to manage and remove the materials, while ensuring they are handled safely. Health P-E-I says there is no risk to staff or patients, as asbestos has no risk when undisturbed. The work is expected to take about 10 weeks once the tender is awarded.
