Thousands of Islanders and visitors marked Canada Day by attending celebrations in communities across Prince Edward Island. Two of the larger celebrations were in Summerside and Charlottetown. Summerside’s celebrations ended with fireworks and a free concert by Blue Rodeo. Joel Plaskett and the Emergency played at Charlottetown’s Capital City Canada Day 2025. Unfortunately, the Canada Day Fireworks in Charlottetown had to be delayed for safety reasons due to the strong winds. The fireworks will be held Wednesday at 10pm.
Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke at a Canada Day gathering in Ottawa, saying, in part, that “we’ve decided not to pull apart and fight, but to come together and build.” Governor General Mary Simon told the crowd that the country is on a journey of reconciliation that began by listening to one another, by honouring the past, and by “holding space for the pain and resilience” of Indigenous Peoples. The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, also spoke at Ottawa’s LeBreton Flats Park to mark Canada’s 158th birthday.
