The union representing workers at Atlantic Canada news company SaltWire is acknowledging that job cuts are coming after a sale to Postmedia was approved in court.
C-W-A Canada says in a letter to its members it negotiated that some money owed by SaltWire to the Chronicle Herald pension plan would be paid.
The letter confirms the Chronicle Herald’s pension plan will be wound up according to pension plan legislation.
The union says the collective agreements and bargaining rights will continue for operations acquired by Postmedia. SaltWire and The Herald publish newspapers and online content in PEI, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador – including The Guardian and Journal pioneer.
