We’re going to receive some of the coldest weather we’ve had in years this weekend.
Cold arctic air will arrive in the region with strong wind, some snow and blowing snow and minus 35 to 40 wind chill values. This system will persist from Friday night into Saturday morning before things begin to get better as the wind drops down.
PEI Stormchaser says to expect blowing snow in heavy flurries in eastern PEI especially off open the open water. Temperatures could be minus 28 with a wind chill near minus 45 by dawn on Saturday morning. The strongest wind gusts will be on Saturday morning between 10 and 3 in the afternoon with gusts up to 80.
That wind will shift to the southwest on Sunday morning and temperatures will rise zero by mid evening.
Driving will be affected with slippery road conditions and poor visibility in blowing snow.
There will be improving conditions on Sunday.
Emergency Measures says if you have to go out during the cold this weekend make sure you are dressed warmly in layers and don’t stay out too long.
Also, if you have a heat pump you keep your furnace on this weekend. A good idea to turn on the furnace this evening through Sunday to make sure your pipes don’t freeze.
