The Provincial U11AA baseball championship is on in Stratford this weekend.
The Kensington Astros came back for a 10-3 win over the Northside Cubs to advance Saturday night.
The Blue Jays had one that got away in an 8-7 loss in Denver, last night. Leading 5-0 early, the Colorado Rockies came back and the Jays lost a chance to move closer in the wild card race.
Shortstop Ernie Clement made two errors leading to a four-run 5th inning for the Rockies capped by Brenton Doyle’s three-run triple.
The Jays remain 1.5 back of Texas for the last wild card spot. The Rangers lost 9-7 to Minnesota. The Twins had a five-run 4th.
Seattle is the best team in baseball since July 1st. The West leading Mariners got by the NY Mets, 8-7 on a J.P. Crawford homer in the 9th. The M’s are 39-15 in the last two months and one up on Houston and two in front of Texas in the division.
Boston over Kansas City, 9-5. Triston Casa had a two-run homer.
The Yankees edged Houston, 5-4.
Baltimore is 2.5 up on the Rays in the AL East with a 7-3 win over Arizona. Tampa Bay lost 7-6 to Cleveland in 11 innings.
Atlanta has 90 wins with a 4-2 win over the LA Dodgers.
The Charlottetown Islanders split a twin bill in Saint John in the New Brunswick Senior League.
The Isles won the opener, 13-5 Tyler Taylor had three hits and drove in four runs. Tyler McInnis had four hits including two doubles and an RBI.
The Alpines won the second game, 9-3 using a six-run 6th. Nick MacPhail went 3 for 4 at the plate for Charlottetown.
The Amherst Ramblers dumped the Summerside Western Capitals, 5-1 in exhibition Jr. A hockey. Jack Campbell had the lone Caps goal. Drew McIntyre scored twice for the Ramblers who won both ends of the weekend home and home series.
Roll Em with Marc Campbell driving won the featured 13th in 1. 52/3 in harness racing at Red Shores in Charlottetown. Campbell reined four winners and leads the track with 91 victories.
David Dowling had three wins and Gilles Barrieau had two on the card.
Dowling’s trip to the winner’s circle included First Glance in 1.544.
Barrieau took Blood Money to a win in 1.55.
