Dal goalie Alex MacDonald makes a save as the Tigers edged UPEI, 4-3
Adolis Garcia’s walk off homer in the 11th gave the Texas Rangers a 6-5 comeback win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of the World Series.
The D-Backs led 5-3 early but Corey Seager’s two-run homer off closer Paul Sewald tied the game in the 8th.
Game 2 is tonight in Arlington.
The Dalhousie Tigers held off the UPEI men’s hockey Panthers, 4-3 in the AUS. A far cry from the Tigers 10-2 loss to UPEI just a week before. Ryan Smith had the game winner early in the 3rd period. Kaleb Pearson had a goal and assist as the Panthers made a game of it with 10 minutes left. Pearson has 7 goals in seven games.
Dalhousie got by UPEI, 2-1 in women’s hockey in Halifax. Anjali Simms scored for the Panthers. Brooklyn Paisley and Gabrielle Noordijk scored for Dal.
The Halifax Mooseheads dropped the Charlottetown Islanders, 6-2 in the Q. Marcus Vidicek and Jordan Dumais scored twice for the Moose. Cole Huskins and Gionvanni Morneau for the Islanders who are 6-7-1.
Chicago got by Las Vegas, 4-3 in overtime in the NHL. That’s the first loss this season for the defending Stanley Cup champs. Connor Bedard got his 3rd goal. Phillipp Kurashev got the winner on power play in OT.
Erica Haula had two goals as New Jersey got by Buffalo, 5-4.
Quinn Hughes had two goals as Vancouver shutout St. Louis, 5-0. Thatcher Demko made 22 saves in the nets.
In other games: Washington 3 Minnesota 2 in a shootout.
Carolina blanked San Jose, 3-0.

The UPEI women’s basketball Panthers opened the season on the road in St. John’s with a 73-57 effort over Memorial. Lauren Rainford had 23 points and 5 rebounds.
The men’s Panthers lost 79-76 to Memorial. Kamari Scott had 24 points and 5 rebounds. UPEI came up short, outscoring the Seahawks, 20-11 in the 4th quarter.
Alex Caruso landed a three-pointer with 2.3 seconds left as the Chicago Bulls downed the Toronto Raptors, 104-103 in the NBA. Scottie Barnes led Toronto with 22 points.
Boston dropped Miami, 119-111. Derrick White had 28 points including five 3 point shots.
Utah got by the LA Clippers, 120–118. Morell, PEI’s Scott Morrison is an assistant coach with the Jazz.
PEI resident Mike Puiaa has been named to the Maine Sports Hall of Fame for his involvement in baseball as a player and coach.
Andrew “Spider” MacNeill and Dr. Stuart MacKinnon have been named to the World U17 Hockey Challenge support staff. The tourney begins next Thursday in Summerside and Charlottetown.
