Shohei Ohntani was a no-show in Toronto after several social media reports said he was going to sign with the Jays after arriving on a private jet on Friday evening.
The MLB Network and a number of reporters said his arrival was happening.
But veteran writer Bob Nightingale said the baseball star was still in southern California despite the speculation.
Ohtani has not signed anywhere but Toronto is still one of the finalists.
There were two trades reported on Friday. Boston gets outfielder Tyler O’Neill from St. Louis.
The Angels dealt David Fletcher and Max Stassi to Atlanta for Evan White and Tyler Thomas.
The Charlottetown Islanders made it two straight wins in the Q, edging the Saint John Sea Dogs, 4-3. Ross Campbell got the game winner early in the third period. Michael Horth scored his team leading 22nd.
The Northern Moose surprised the Charlottetown Knights, 6-2 in Major U18 led by Noah Breau with a goal and two assists. Carson MacKenzie had both Knights goals. Charlottetown remains 3 points back of first place Moncton.
Evan Bouchard had two goals and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers got by Minnesota, 4-3. Connor Mc David and Leon Draisaitl both scored.
Florida won 3-1 over Pittsburgh. Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves in the net.
The Charlotte Hornets held off the Toronto Raptors, 119-116 in the NBA. Scottie Barnes had a triple double with 31 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for the Raptors but missed a three point shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game to overtime.
On Today: Harness racing with post time at 12.30 at Red Shores in Charlottetown and a 13-dash card. Dreamfair Zenfire is the 5-2 favourite for driver Marc Campbell in the 12th race for fillies and mares.
The Grand Falls Rapids visit the Summerside Western Capitals at 7:00 in Maritime Jr. Hockey.
Two games in Major U18 tonight. Both are 7.30 starters. Saint John as the Kensington Wild and the Charlottetown Knights at Moncton. The Knights are three points back of the first place Flyers. Kensington is three points behind second place Charlottetown.
