The Province says Islanders won’t face the financial burden of added costs for waste management operations this year. That’s because the province is giving Island Waste Management Corporation a grant of $2.95 million to cover its increased costs of operating, so those costs won’t be passed on to customers. In January, IWMC applied to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission for an increase in both residential and commercial user fees to cover the costs of operating. It received approval in February. Following similar grants the past couple years, and this year’s grant, fees will remain at the 2021 rate.
