The province says it has added 144 social housing units through purchases in 2023-2024. The purchases were made by the PEI Housing Corporation over the last fiscal year, with investments in 8 Island communities. They include a mix of single-family, duplexes, row houses, mini-homes, and apartment buildings. Purchases include 8 units in Borden; 32 units in Charlottetown; 4 units in Georgetown; 6 units in Kensington; 30 units in Montague; 59 units in Summerside; 2 units in O’Leary; and 3 units in Vernon River. Housing Minister Rob Lantz says these units will help reduce the wait list of those looking for social housing, and will improve the affordability, availability and suitability of housing for many families and seniors.
