Brief Court Appearance for former Summerside City Councillor

The legal charges against former Summerside city councillor Barb Gallant have been changed and downgraded. After a brief court appearance yesterday, Gallant now faces two summary offence charges, one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud less than $5,000. Previously she had faced a single indictable charge of theft over $5,000 for allegedly defrauding a local charitable organization, the Lest We Forget Veterans Committee, where she was once president. City council voted to remove her after she missed three meetings in a row and a byelection has been set for Oct. 1 to fill the Ward 5 seat.
